Avnet, Arrow Lead List of Top 10 Distributors in Germany

July 13, 2015
European consulting firm releases list of top 10 electronic components distributors serving the German market, with American firms Avnet and Arrow on top, followed by Germany’s own Rutronik at number three.

Euro Partners Consultants released its European Distribution Report this month, listing the top 10 distributors of electronic components serving customers in Germany, Europe’s largest electronic components distribution market. American firms Avnet and Arrow took the top two spots in the list, with Germany-based Rutronik ranking third.

Euro Partners is a group of international consultants who work with distributors and manufacturers of electronic components; 2015 marks the 25th year the group has published its European Distribution Report, which analyzes the electronic components business in Europe based on Distribution Total Available Market (DTAM). The report ranks companies based on their share of the marketplace. After falling 1.4% in 2013, DTAM in Germany rose 7% in 2014 to 4.4 billion Euros, according to the report.

The report authors say they expect 5% to 7% growth in German DTAM over the next two years, based on slowly improving economic conditions worldwide.

The top three companies comprise about 53% of German DTAM, with Avnet capturing 27% of market share, Arrow capturing 16%, and Rutronik 10%. The other seven companies on the list total approximately 15% of the market in Germany, with the remainder captured by a variety of “other” sources, according to the report.

Two other North American distributors made the Euro Partners Top 10 list: Texas-based TTI, Inc., at 3.5%, and Montreal, Canada-based Future Electronics, at 3.2%. Britain-based RS Components, sister company to Texas-based Allied Electronics, ranked 7th, with 1.7%.

The report also cites a declining distribution market in Germany, noting that the number of distributors serving the market has dropped from about 300 in 2009 to 250 in 2015. The authors say they expect that trend to continue, with a drop to about 200 companies in the next five years.

The Euro Partners Top 10 list mirrors some results of Global Purchasing’s 2015 Top 50 Electronics Distributors Report. Avnet and Arrow took the top two spots on the Global Purchasing list this year, with Rutronik coming in at number 11. The Global Purchasing Top 50 ranks the largest distributors of electronic components serving the North American marketplace according to their worldwide sales volume.
