America II adds display manufacturer to global line card; Avnet adds to embedded offering with Boundary Devices agreement.

Electronics supply chain companies were busy expanding their product lines this fall, with some notable agreements coming from America II Electronics and Avnet Electronics Marketing.

America II, which has been building its network of franchised distribution agreements over the past few years, announced the addition of display manufacturer Beneq to its line card. Beneq is a developer and manufacturer of rugged, thin film electroluminescence displays and fully transparent TASEL displays. America II will distribute the line globally.

“We see an increase in demand and a lot of growth potential in the display market, and Beneq provides a premier product with their line of Lumineq displays,” America II President Brian Ellison said in a statement announcing the news. “The addition of their TFEL and TASEL displays strengthens our product portfolio and gives us an opportunity to provide a premium offering to customers seeking displays for critical applications.”

America II also announced a new agreement with primary and rechargeable battery maker GP Batteries.  The distributor will sell GP Batteries’ entire portfolio of products to customers throughout North and South America.

“GP Batteries is one of the world’s largest suppliers of batteries and battery-related products, and we’re thrilled to have them on our line card,” said Ellison.

In other distribution news, Avnet Inc. announced that its Avnet Embedded business has added Boundary Devices’ ARM-based single board computers and System-on-Modules for the general embedded market. The company specializes in network-connected, fanless, low-power multimedia devices featuring ARM-based boards and designs based on the i.MX family of processors from Freescale® Semiconductor.

“Software continues to be a challenge for many embedded designers,” said John Salemme, vice president and general manager of Avnet Embedded. “In addition to its strong SBC and SoM offerings, Boundary Devices has tremendous internal software expertise in an array of operating systems, including Ubuntu, Yocto and Android, as well as a network of software partners to help customers choose and implement the best board support package for their embedded design.”

The deal allows Avnet to provide customers in military, aerospace, digital displays, and other markets with rapid embedded product hardware and software development support, while maintaining the flexibility of a custom design, the company said.
