Avnet Hires New Head of Americas Electronic Components Business

Avnet is hiring a new regional president for the company’s Americas electronic components business. Tony Roybal, who previously served as vice president for On Semiconductor, is taking over operations of Avnet’s electronics business in the region, reporting to Phil Gallagher, Avnet’s global president for electronic components.

“As more and more customers discover the benefits of going to market leveraging Avnet’s end-to-end ecosystem, Tony’s ability to lead our Americas’ team as well as develop strong relationships with our suppliers and customers is a combination that’s sure to accelerate the positive growth we’ve been seeing in the Americas,” said Avnet’s C.E.O. William Amelio in a statement.

Roybal worked with On Semiconductor for almost two and a half decades. Most recently, he headed its Americas business, which last year reported double-digit, year-over-year revenue growth and market share gains in the automotive, industrial and consumer segments. In that role Roybal also assisted with organizational, customer and product integration in 15 acquisitions.

He takes the position recently vacated by Chuck Delph, now the president of Vallen Distribution. Delph became the latest senior executive to have stepped away from Avnet over the last two years. In 2016, the company's board of directors ousted chief executive Rick Hamada, which was followed by the departure of Gerry Fay, formerly Avnet’s president of global electronics marketing, and Ed Smith, the senior vice president of Avnet's embedded division.
