Marking the fourth birthday of the Raspberry Pi computer, the Raspberry Pi Foundation announced the availability of the fourth model of its affordably priced, credit-card sized programming computer on February 29. Still available for $35, the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B is designed for educational, hobbyist, and professional pursuits. To date, the Foundation and its distributors have shipped more than 8 million units of Raspberry Pi globally.
Features of the new board include:
- IoT-enabled: The Pi 3 is the first out-of-the-box IoT-ready Raspberry Pi with built-in wireless and Bluetooth connectivity.
- Increased speed: A new processing chip enables the new board to perform 350Mhz faster than previous editions.
- Better processor: The board is built on a new QUAD Core Broadcom BCM2837 64bit ARMv8 processor running at 1.25GHz.
