SkyWater Technology Foundry Receives DoD Accreditation

March 30, 2017
Company plans to expand engagements with the U.S. DoD.

SkyWater Technology Foundry’s production-scale microelectronics wafer fabrication facility in Bloomington, Minn., is now a Category 1A Trusted Foundry thanks to its new accreditation from the Defense Microelectronics Activity (a branch of the U.S. Department of Defense).

The accreditation enables SkyWater Technology Foundry to provide wafer fabrication, design, wafer test, and broker services as a trusted supplier.

SkyWater Technology Foundry plans to expand engagements with the U.S. DoD generally, and is poised to meet the requirements of DoD Instruction 5200.44, which requires fabrication of custom microelectronics components in a trusted facility, according to the company.

On March 1, Cypress Semiconductor Corp. announced the sale of the wafer fab to SkyWater. Cypress said the transaction allows it to reduce its manufacturing footprint and cost structure while increasing the utilization of its Fab in Austin, Texas.
