Mouser Offers Mobile App for Inventory Management

Mouser Electronics built an inventory management tool for smartphones and tablets. It is the company’s latest effort to improve productivity for electronics engineers and to iron out the idiosyncrasies of ordering parts and tracking part inventories online.

Mouser’s tool can be used for managing part numbers, tracking part stocks, and importing inventory data from spreadsheets from a web browser or smartphone or tablet. Hayne Shumate, senior vice president of Mouser's internet business, said that the tool is aimed at companies with “small to medium sized inventories.”

The tool, which can be downloaded for iOS and Android devices, also provides a way for engineers to check out shared tools like oscilloscopes or soldering equipment. “The new mobile app allows customers to manage bins of parts without being tethered to the desktop,” Shumate said in a statement.

The tool also fits with Mouser’s push to grease sales of its electronic components by making it easier for engineers to find and replenish inventories online. To that end, the desktop version provides shortcuts for purchasing managers that need to reorder parts, the subsidiary of electronics giant TTI said in a demo video.

In April, Mouser released a tool called Forte for managing bills of materials. It helps engineers locate products online using partial or outdated part numbers and descriptions, confirming availability and suggesting alternatives to improve designs and reduce lifecycle risks. Forte lets engineers make purchases directly.
