Smith announced on Tuesday that it had hired a new vice president of global purchasing to improve the diversity of products it sells to customers. Layla Wright takes the role at the electronics distributor after leading a subsidiary of Smith's that resells servers.
“My key goal is to develop current and potential sources in the global market,” said Wright, who previously led Smith’s global services business unit. The Houston-based firm is trying to increase the number of suppliers in its repertoire to respond to customer demands more quickly.
"Market volatility can require reactive strategies, but diligently building a foundation for flexible, reliable sourcing will help us proactively support our customers around the world," Wright said in a statement. This year, Smith was 11th in SourceToday’s ranking of the top 50 distributors.
